Demeter is the goddess of grain, fertility, harvest, and agriculture. She is the daughter of Kronos and Rhea and sister of Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hades, and Hestia. Her Roman counterpart is Ceres, which the English word 'Cereal' was created.

History[]
One day, Demeter's daughter, Persephone, was out in the fields picking flowers with some Nymphs. When suddenly, Hades came and kidnapped young Persephone. When Demeter found out about this, she was furious and sad. She traveled around the world searching for young Persephone day and night. She made everything stop growing.
Finally, she asked Helios what happened. He told her he saw Hades abduct Persephone, so Demeter rampaged to the Underworld where she discovered Persephone ate 6 pomegranate seeds. So, finally, after days of arguing, they agreed Persephone would stay with her Mother 6 months each year, which made her happy and made everything grow, and then the other 6 years with Hades, which made Demeter sad and grieve for her Daughter, so she made everything stop growing. These are known as the seasons.
